Personal highlights for Niykee include being selected by a scout to join Snoop on the YouTube Brandcast, in May 2013 and composing songs despite all the turmoil of the past few years. Being a magnet for producers, Niykee has a constant eye on the many beats that are delivered to her. She finds that most are a source of new songs. It's easy to tell when a beat's great after five seconds and then I'll have a song in my head, and I'll start writing right away she tells. When I am playing my guitar outside on my porch the words begin to flow. Most often, I'm done in 30 minutes. Niykee is continuing to improve her skills as a poet and lyrics writer. She says that the trauma she endured in the past is a constant source of unique motivation. Even when I'm not writing literally about things that have been a part of my life, all the hurt of growing up and the loss of my sister end in being integrated into my lyrics, she says. It shapes my songs and builds this deeper understanding behind all things that's an important thing for me. I want to be able to say that I could listen to any of my songs 20 years from now and still feel proud of the things I wrote.
